We wrote songs about the Mississippi in Arkansas
About a tattooed waitress in a biker bar
A lonely man in an RV in Portland Maine
A sad girl I didn’t comfort in the California rain
So when her strings started buzzing
And my chords she couldn’t play
Repair man said there’s no sense fussing
Might as well throw her away
But we’ve played together to my kids
Written songs about my girl
I knew it wasn’t time to say goodbye
We’ve got a long way to go still

Put her back together now she’s still here with me
This one’s just about me and my guitar
So when I get to thinking my time’s nearly through
Or when my hands no longer do what I ask them to
If my grandkids don’t play I’ll find someone new
