This is a song about me and my guitar
25 years part of my family
She’s seen what I’ve seen, she’s played my history
This one’s just about me and my guitar
CF Martin & Co from Nazareth PA
Under the words Made in the USA
Music store couldn’t give me much history
So I don’t know where she’d been before she got to me
Scratched under the pick guard, cracked down one side
Know she was born in the 70s, must’ve had a hard ride
So I’ll imagine the juke joints and a honky tonk bar
Where she was played by a troubadour who died in his car
This is a song about me and my guitar
25 years part of my family
She’s seen what I’ve seen, she’s played my history
This one’s just about me and my guitar
We wrote songs about the Mississippi in Arkansas
About a tattooed waitress in a biker bar
A lonely man in an RV in Portland Maine
A sad girl I didn’t comfort in the California rain
So when her strings started buzzing
And my chords she couldn’t play
Repair man said there’s no sense fussing
Might as well throw her away
But we’ve played together to my kids
Written songs about my girl
I knew it wasn’t time to say goodbye
We’ve got a long way to go still
This is a song about me and my guitar
25 years part of my family
Put her back together now she’s still here with me
This one’s just about me and my guitar
So when I get to thinking my time’s nearly through
Or when my hands no longer do what I ask them to
If my grandkids don’t play I’ll find someone new
Set free what I love, it’s the least I can do
